The divine is everywhere, if we choose to look.
This excerpt from Mary Oliver’s poem At the River Clarion reminds us that divinity is not confined to pews or pulpits—it’s in the forests and ice caps, in art and struggle, in creation and destruction, in each of us.
Oliver, a Pulitzer Prize–winning poet often donned the “patron saint of paying attention,” devoted her life’s work to noticing the sacred in the natural world. To see the divine in all things is also to recognize our responsibility to protect them.
